I was a teenager when I first discovered the Marx brothers. I was channel surfing through the handful of channels at the time, and came across heir movie “Horsefeathers”. I had never seen anything like it. I was hooked. I laughed out loud at Groucho’s lines and ever since I have marveled at his greatness in their movies. So, when I found this book cheap at a used bookstore I snagged it. He wrote it so it had to be good, right? (continued)…

So why didn’t I like it more? I can get past the fact that’s it’s dated and reflects a bygone era. But the thing is, only parts of it are funny and only parts of it even held my interest. To it’s credit, the book has some writings that are smart and clever, even laugh out loud. But some of the other stories in the book are not funny at all and left me wondering why they were even included. Buy hey, I got it used and cheap and the bottom line is that I got some laughs. I just wish more of the book was that way.

So, it’s ok. But you’d be better off putting on a DVD of Duck Soup, Horsefeathers, Monkey Business, Animal Crackers, etc. Now THOSE are funny!
