This book is a short and breezy novel by the author of “Running With Scissors” and “Dry”, among other works. He has a dark sense of humor and wit, which led me to hope for great things from this book. But it wasn’t great. It was mildly entertaining and had it’s moments. [continued]

The style is of writing is very simplistic. In this novel, he isn’t much for long wordy sentences or depth. It’s short and to the point, sometimes maybe too much so. I wanted more character development as the characters are a bit thin, even approaching one-dimensional. I didn’t really care much about any of them. Fortunately, Burroughs drops a surprising plot development here and there to keep it moving. It’s short and a quick read and I’ll admit that I did keep wondering what was going to happen next. He’s a quirky writer so anything can happen.

With that said, the book was ok. Maybe a little better than ok but not a lot better. I bought it used, in a thrift store, and for that cheap price it was worth reading. You might like it more. Or you might not like it at all. I think his writing style would turn off some people. I found it to be a slight but pleasant diversion and an easy and fast read. But a literary classic it’s not.
