From the HuffPo:

In his defense, he insists the dog started it.

A Mason, Ohio man was given a ticket Sunday after allegedly taunting a police dog, according to the New York Daily News. Cops had initially shown up at the bar in order to investigate a car accident.

Ryan James Stevens, 25, was officially charged with teasing the police dog after police returned to their cruiser only to find the allegedly intoxicated young man making noises at the dog in the back of their cruiser, according to the Associated Press.

The AP reported:

Officer Bradley Walker wrote that he heard the K9 dog barking uncontrollably inside his patrol car while he was investigating a car crash at a pub early Sunday morning. Walker says Stephens was making barking noises and hissing at the animal.

When asked why he was harassing the dog, named Timber, Stevens reportedly said, “He started it.”

According to the NY Daily News he was ticketed and released into the custody of a bar employee who drove him home safely. The amount for which Stevens was cited has not been reported.

Yeah. The dog started it. You read that right.

Yes, right here in our freedom-loving country, a 33-year-old classic rock song has been censored! Is it a rock classic or is it just more evil from the devil’s workshop? Do you even like The Eagles? Well, maybe. But of all the rock song lyrics that people could censor, this one seems pretty tame to me. Check out this piece from the Birmingham Weekly and then vote in their poll:

If you’re one of the 16 million people who bought the Eagles’ album Hotel California, or if you’ve spent any portion of your life somewhere other than the underside of a rock, you’ve heard the song, “Life In the Fast Lane.” And probably you like it: 33 years after its release, it remains a standard on classic hits radio stations like Birmingham’s Eagle 106.9 FM.

Unlike the vast majority of radio stations, Eagle 106.9 censors the song.

You probably know the line:

We’ve been up and down this highway/ haven’t seen a goddamn thing.

Eagle 106.9 program manager Mike Schoenherr, a.k.a. Hurricane Shane, replaced “god” with a snippet of lyric-less music from elsewhere in the song.

This was neither per any FCC policy or a mandate from Eagle 106.9’s owner, Cox Radio.

“It’s everybody’s policy,” says Eagle 106.9 station manger Ray Nelson, explaining his decision. “People find it offensive.” Of note, Nelson is a veteran of nearly 40 years in radio.

“This is the first time this issue has come to my attention,” says Don Felder, guitarist for the Eagles from 1974-1980 and 1994-2001. A native of the South, he agrees with Nelson in one respect: “There are people who have extreme religious beliefs that would find it offensive. I can understand why they wouldn’t like to hear it.”

Felder believes the song should be broadcast as the Eagles recorded it, though. His long list of reasons includes his determination that classic rock fans prefer it that way. Legally, the Eagles have no recourse.

The heart of the issue is to what extent classic rock fans in fact find the original version offensive. “I’d be happy to conduct an online poll to gauge listener opinion, because after all the station is theirs, not mine,” says Hurricane Shane. “I just mix the music and try to amuse and entertain the listeners occasionally.”

Seriously? Sheesh! This song has been played to death everywhere and everyone that cares knows exactly what the lyrics are. Take their poll. The results will be published in the March 19 edition of Birmingham Weekly and on www.bhamweekly.com.

And, of course, you could always leave me a comment…

Isn’t that how the sayng goes? Well, just a few miles from my house recently there was a case of extreme stupidity. See what you think. Is this guy just totally dumb or what?

From the local paper, the Sacramento Bee:

Popcorn Trail Leads Cops To Burglary Suspect

Just hours into the new year, Sacramento police responded to a burglary call at the Food Stop market at 2101 Natomas Crossing Road and found an unusual clue, said Sgt. Norm Leong.

A window had been broken, and among the items stolen apparently was a bag of popcorn: a trail of kernels led police from the market to a nearby apartment complex – all the way up to a doorstep, Leong said.

The trail continued inside the apartment, where police found 21-year-old Tyree Brown (left photo). He was on probation, so officers could legally search him. Officers found him in possession of items police believe were stolen from Food Stop, Leong said.

Officers arrested Brown on suspicion of possessing stolen property, Leong said. They are awaiting forensic test results to determine whether he was inside the market, and if he was, he faces the chance of a burglary charge as well, Leong said.

Was I right? Is that dense? And btw, Just Plain Stupid - Part 1 is here.

Yes We Can!

The most important thing first: HE WON!! Barack Obama is our next president! News doesn’t get much better than that. After eight years of having a clueless frat-boy and his evil henchman running ruining the country, we finally have an intelligent president who can actually speak well, with real ideas and integrity and a hope for uniting our country and making it better for all Americans. Not to mention he is the first African-American president we have ever had. I didn’t think I would see it in my lifetime and I am so glad that I did. We have come a long way from when slavery was the norm and blacks couldn’t even vote. I am proud to have voted for Obama. Yes we can!!!

Of course, we still have a little further to go, as evidenced by the unfortunate passage of Proposition 8 here in California. About 52% of the voters have allowed discrimination to be written into our state constitution by taking away the right for same-sex couples to marry. Some 17,000 18,000 of these couples have already married and they harmed no one. Let me repeat that. They harmed no one! But with heavy support from the Mormons and the Catholics, Prop 8 supporters succeeded in taking away marriage rights from millions of Californians. It is shameful that people would eliminate those rights, in this day and age. These gay people are our friends, family, co-workers, and fellow citizens. They are everywhere and they are no better or worse than anyone else. We have no right to tell them they have fewer rights because they happen to be gay. This battle will surface again, you can bet on it. It will keep surfacing until there is equality for all.

On the plus side (and there is plenty of plus side), in our Sunshine State of California, Prop 2 was approved, giving more humane conditions to farm animals before they are killed for food. At least they will be able to stand up, stretch, and turn around now. Of course, if you really want to help animals, you won’t eat them. But this is a good and much-needed measure anyway. Also, Prop 4 was defeated (once again). This was about parental notification for minors to have abortions. It seems sensible until you realize they will just go elsewhere to have it, or if they do tell their parents then some will be abused or beaten. They keep putting this on the ballot and we keep voting it down.

Now, back to the national level. Restrictive anti-choice measure were defeated in several states. The country is pro-choice, thankfully. Homophobic same-sex marriage bills passed in a couple other states too, as some people are not yet ready to give the same rights to gay people as they themselves have. But we are getting there. Young people voted heavily to allow gay marriage and they are the future. Meanwhile, in the very important congressional races, we (Democrats) gained at least five six Senate seats with four three more still to be decided. Hopefully some of those will go our way too. And we gained around 20 House seats at least, with a number of races still undecided, so that figure may grow. We also got a gain of one governorship. Those congressional changes should hopefully make it easier for President-Elect Obama (love the sound of that) to get his proposals turned into law. Fewer obstructionist Republicans and an Obama electoral landslide should combine to help to bring about the change that we need. It may be slower than we want, but it is coming.

Leverage those impressive gains with the HUGE Obama victory and you have what I would call a stunning mandate for change. The Republican corruption and lies of the last eight Bush/Cheney years are just about over and a new day is dawning. It won’t be easy, and Obama himself has said that same thing many times. But we CAN change the priorities in this country, we CAN build the middle class instead of the upper, we CAN take care of all our people and not just the Fortune 500 companies, we CAN use our military in smart ways instead of attacking countries that were never a threat to us, we CAN save our environment instead of letting people and companies damage the planet, we CAN keep our people healthy no matter who they are, we CAN gain back the respect that the rest of the world used to have for us, we CAN make a better America. YES WE CAN!!!

John McCain (aka McSame, aka Bush 44) thinks you are stupid. That is the only explanation I can figure. He is all over the media with his “Maverick” talk, yapping about how he will bring change to Washington and reform things and shake things up. But NEWS FLASH!!!! It is HIS PARTY that has been running things the past eight years. Duh! He voted with George Bush 90% of the time. (Last year it was 95%). Ooooh, really shaking things up there John, aren’t we? Not!! If he ever was a “maverick”, those days were over long long ago. Nowdays he is just more of the same. If you want change he is so not the real thing.

The only difference I can really see is that McSame may be a little smarter (who isn’t?), but the tradeoff is his legendary temper. But wait. He doesn’t even know how many houses he owns so forget that “smarter” comment I made. Oh, and Bush didn’t dump his first wife after she was disfigured in an auto accident.

From the UK Daily Mail:

McCain’s first wife, Carol, was a famous beauty and a successful swimwear model when they married in 1965. She was the woman McCain dreamed of during his long incarceration and torture in Vietnam’s infamous ‘Hanoi Hilton’ prison and the woman who faithfully stayed at home looking after the children and waiting anxiously for news.

But when McCain returned to America in 1973 to a fanfare of publicity and a handshake from Richard Nixon, he discovered his wife had been disfigured in a terrible car crash three years earlier. Her car had skidded on icy roads into a telegraph pole on Christmas Eve, 1969. Her pelvis and one arm were shattered by the impact and she suffered massive internal injuries. When Carol was discharged from hospital after six months of life-saving surgery, the prognosis was bleak. In order to save her legs, surgeons had been forced to cut away huge sections of shattered bone, taking with it her tall, willowy figure. She was confined to a wheelchair and was forced to use a catheter.

Through sheer hard work, Carol learned to walk again. But when John McCain came home from Vietnam, she had gained a lot of weight and bore little resemblance to her old self. Today, she stands at just 5ft4in and still walks awkwardly, with a pronounced limp. Her body is held together by screws and metal plates and, at 70, her face is worn by wrinkles that speak of decades of silent suffering. For nearly 30 years, Carol has maintained a dignified silence about the accident, McCain and their divorce. But last week at the bungalow where she now lives at Virginia Beach, a faded seaside resort 200 miles south of Washington, she told The Mail on Sunday how McCain divorced her in 1980 and married Cindy, 18 years his junior and the heir to an Arizona brewing fortune, just one month later. “My marriage ended because John McCain didn’t want to be 40, he wanted to be 25.”

But Ross Perot, who paid her medical bills all those years ago, now believes that both Carol McCain and the American people have been taken in by a man who is unusually slick and cruel – even by the standards of modern politics. ‘McCain is the classic opportunist. He’s always reaching for attention and glory,’ he said.

===
Just one month later. Nice going, Maverick.

Stupidity. It’s everywhere! As the chart shows, this is an especially stupid time. Code Red!

As part of a continuing effort, I will share some of the stupidest things I run across. Today we have some dense people in our second-favorite city, Seattle, courtesy of Seattle Metblogs.

“Suspects Kyle Burress and Allen Pierce broke into Fred Meyer in Monroe, WA, stole a variety of goods, and then left a trail of dropped/discarded objects that led police to their hiding place. The boys had fallen asleep on said stolen goods when police found them. Photos were taken, the boys were awakened, and now face charges of second-degree theft. Alcohol is a possible contributor.”

You really have to see this photo of Kyle sleeping. So peaceful. So clueless.

I love that last sentence. “Alcohol is a possible contributor.” Could it be?
